Please be advised that the following resolution was unanimously
supported at the NBPAC Meeting of May 3rd:
-----------------------------------
The Natick Bicycle and Pedestrian Advisory Committee urges Natick
and
the MBTA to include a clear incentive for bicycle parking in the
planning for the new downtown Natick parking garage, as follows.
Allocate five car spaces indoors on the first floor, adjacent to
the
exit and to optimum visibility, to be used as free parking for
some 25
bicycles instead.
This will serve as a visible incentive to some car drivers to bicycle
instead (inexpensively and safely parking out of the weather),
and thus
will serve Natick in the same way the parking garage serves Boston
-- to
free up additional downtown car parking for others. In addition,
each
converted car space will serve five commuters instead of one.
Should
this prove popular, additional space conversions should be provided
to
meet the demand.
We urge adoption of this important plan modification in time for
Bike
Week (May 16-22), and we hope that Natick and the MBTA will embrace
its
philosophy.
